Café Navarre
Overview
Café Navarre is a restaurant, serving up delicious, seasonal dishes inside a historic property in downtown South Bend, Indiana. Building from its initial success, the chef and owner, wanted a more bespoke brand identity that both honored their French ancestry and better aligned with the craft and artistry that goes into every dish and drink.
While researching this project, I learned that the city of South Bend, was founded by the French fur trader, Pierre F. Navarre and that the owners have fashioned their cafe after the small neighborhood bistros found across Paris. Using this as my starting point, I worked to craft a flexible brand identity system, website, and collateral materials. In creating these pieces, I combined classic French typography - from street signs to the Metro - with some painterly brush strokes, and a fresh color palette that better unites the warm inviting atmosphere of the cafe and the artistry of the food with a bespoke identity that reflects the passion and focus put into every element of the restaurant.
