Project
MMXVI
Overview
Photographs are stories. They capture the people, places, and things which depict a common experience or capture a specific moment in time. Influenced by Warhol's obsession with photography, and as a personal project for 2016, I decided to take one photograph every day for an entire year. In establishing this project, I decided I would shoot exclusively on my iPhone, only in Black and White, and use minimal retouching. I wanted the photos to capture a moment or a feeling and not feel overly processed or labored over as so many Instagram posts do. Instead, this project was my attempt to reclaim the joy and habit I have for taking pictures, to capture the events, both large and small, that marked my days and helped expand my view and way of seeing the world.
Once I had a full year of images, I assembled them in chronological order into a hardcover book. The layout and typography of the work were kept to a minimal,
simple grid to allow the viewer to focus on the images and see how life unfolded
over the course of a year. Only two copies of the book were produced.
